"I was truly lucky to find SRK General Construction to help me take a dark, dingy and not-too-well maintained condo into the bright, beautiful and perfectly functioning unit I'm happy to call home! Although I had some ideas about what I wanted, it's hard to be 100% ready to commit when you've only seen your new place a few times before it's yours. Scott was the perfect person for me to work with because he never made me feel I was wasting his time or making strange decisions (although he did gently guide me a few times towards a "better" idea). My job was not a major renovation but it sure had lots of small parts that were important to me (like putting door stoppers everywhere .... literally everywhere) and having the plumber check every appliance and faucet...just to be on the safe side. "I was in a pickle. I needed to finish in my walk out basement so my parents could stay with us and have their own space, while my Mother had continuous hospital visits. Let’s face it, you love your parents, but not all family can live together. I had a limited budget, a strict time line, and the determination not to cut any corners.

I set out to get five bids to finish 1300 square feet. I received three bids, one didn’t call back, and one contractor even laughed at me and said it couldn’t be done. I wonder if those two are still in business. Out of the three bids I did receive, two were within $3,000 of each other, and the other was $10,000.00 higher than the second highest. Obviously, that contractor did not listen to me when I told them my budget, because it wasn’t even close. Now it was between SRK Construction and one other bid.

Long story short, I used SRK’s bid as a measuring stick against his competitors bid. I ended up using SRK’s bid to find all of the hidden costs that the other contractor left out or expected me to think of. I’m an accountant trained to look for variances, I can only imagine trying to do that without a numbers back ground. I also helped build houses when I was younger, so I had that knowledge as well. SRK Construction was not the least expensive, but from the honesty and the fundamental transparency of the bid and the conversations I had, I went with SRK.

SRK listened to what I wanted to accomplish, and helped me achieve those results. From a handicapped accessible bathroom and entry ways, fire rated drywall, right down to the finishing touches; SRK was in touch the whole time. I have friends who are realtors and they all tell me that the basement looks awesome, and who ever finish it did one heck of a job. Scott Knese worked with us from start to finish, was never unavailable to talk, and never dodged a conversation even if it was a tough one. Scott knew the budget that I was working with, and if I had an idea that was going to push me outside of that he let me know. What impressed me most were the options and ideas that he came up with to get me the same results without pushing my budget or skimping on quality. Most would have just keep running up the cost of the project. It’s easy to do as a home owner. You get excited and the next thing you know you have the Sistine chapel erected. Every change adds up.

I received a written bid, blueprints, and a new amended contract with any changes. Proof of all permits and inspections, and all inspections passed the first time. I was given affordable options on quality products and all deadlines were met. The construction crews were considerate to the point of planning loud construction around my daughters nap times. I’m telling you, that amount of consideration doesn’t happen anymore. Did I mention I’m one of those people that check the walls for the slightest blemishes? Anything that I was the slightest concerned about was addressed and resolved immediately.

When all the construction was completed I had a bedroom, living room, full bath, full kitchen and eating area. I don’t think that finishing 1300 square feet is a small project, but I can’t imagine doing it without Scott’s help. The only bad part is it’s nicer than the rest of the house. I wonder if my parents would stay upstairs and we could take the basement. Maybe Scott could help me figure that one out too."

"When my husband and I began looking for a contractor to finish our basement, we were looking for someone we could truly trust. We wanted someone we were comfortable having in our home for an extended period of time, whose word was reliable, and whose workmanship and attention to detail would reflect an interest in doing things the "right way." We found all of those things and more in SRK General Construction.

The bid we received from SRK was extremely accurate and thorough; there were no hidden costs. We found the amount of the bid to be reasonable, and about what we expected. Scott and/or his foreman, Chris, were at our worksite almost every day until the job was complete, so our basement was finished in about the amount of time we expected. Communication was excellent every step of the way. Every single subcontractor that Scott hired was friendly and respectful toward our family and property. These standards are not a given at every company.

The level of craftsmanship at SRK is outstanding. I can't say enough about how pleased we are with the finished basement. There is not one negative thing I could say about the entire process of working with Scott and Chris. (My husband is astounded by that, since I can usually find fault in SOMETHING).

Our basement has been transformed into a dark, cluttered concrete space into beautiful, comfortable living space for my family. We absolutely love it.

I would enthusiastically recommend SRK General Construction to anyone for your home improvement needs. When we are ready to remodel other areas of our house, we will be calling Scott again. We will not waste our time with anyone else."
